Getting Started
What is Painscout?
Painscout is a SaaS discovery platform that helps entrepreneurs and product builders find validated business opportunities. We analyze real pain points expressed in online communities like Reddit to surface problems people are actively complaining about. Instead of guessing what to build, you can discover what people actually need and are willing to pay for.
How to find your first opportunity
After logging in, head to the Opportunities page. Browse through the list of clustered pain points, sorted by relevance and freshness. Click on any opportunity to see detailed evidence posts and AI-generated idea cards. Use filters to narrow down by persona or pain score. When you find something interesting, save it to your shortlist for later.
Understanding pain scores
Pain scores range from 1-10 and indicate how severe and validated a problem is. Higher scores (7-10) suggest urgent, widespread pain with clear market potential. The score is calculated based on: frustration level in posts, frequency of similar complaints, urgency indicators, and willingness to pay signals. Focus on opportunities with scores of 6+ for the best chances of success.
Saving and organizing ideas
Click the bookmark icon on any opportunity or idea card to save it to your shortlist. Access all saved items from the 'Saved' section in the app. This helps you build a collection of potential business ideas to validate further. Pro users get unlimited saves, while free users have limited saves.

Features & Tools
Exploring opportunities
Each opportunity represents a cluster of related pain points from real users. Click on an opportunity to see: a summary of the problem, evidence posts showing actual complaints, AI-generated idea cards with business solutions, and related metadata like freshness and pain score. Use filters to find opportunities matching your interests and expertise.
Idea cards explained
Idea cards are AI-generated business concepts based on the pain points in each opportunity. Each card includes: a product/service name, problem it solves, target audience, potential monetization strategy, and why it could work. Use these as starting points for further validation, not as final business plans.
Weekly digest emails
Pro users receive a weekly email digest featuring the top new opportunities discovered that week. This helps you stay updated without constantly checking the app. You can customize or disable digest emails from Settings > Notifications.
Filters and search
Use filters to narrow down opportunities by: Persona (who experiences the pain), Pain Score (severity), and Freshness (how recent). Combine multiple filters to find exactly what you're looking for. Your filter preferences are saved for your next visit.
Data & Sources
Where does the data come from?
We analyze public posts from Reddit communities across various niches including startups, SaaS, small business, freelancing, web development, and more. We look for posts where people express frustration, ask for solutions, or describe problems they're facing. All data is publicly available and we respect platform terms of service.
How often is data updated?
We continuously scan communities and add new opportunities every few hours. The 'Freshness' indicator on each opportunity shows when the underlying posts were made. New opportunities appear as soon as our AI has processed and clustered them. Pro users get access to the freshest data first.
Understanding evidence posts
Evidence posts are the actual user complaints and discussions that make up an opportunity. They show you exactly what people are saying in their own words. This helps you understand the real context and severity of the problem. Free users see limited evidence; Pro users see all available posts.
Pain score methodology
Our AI analyzes each post for signals like: explicit frustration language, urgency indicators, mentions of failed alternatives, willingness to pay, and frequency of similar complaints. These factors are weighted and combined into a 1-10 score. We continuously refine the algorithm based on feedback and validation outcomes.
